In Peru dozens of people were injured in Arequipa where an entire town protested against the giant mining project of the Southern Peru Copper Corporation which could cause environmental damage. Over the past few weeks there have been at least 3 dead and hundreds injured. The nearly one and a half billion dollar project involves a mine from which to extract 120,000 tons of copper per year.
