Kirchengemeide St. Josef welcomes guests from Peru
Friendships need to be cultivated: the Peru group of the parish of St. Josef maintains a long-term partnership with the parish of San Lorenzo in Arequipa in Peru as part of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. The city of Arequipa is located in the south of the country at 2300 meters in the Andes.
An important part of the partnership are personal encounters during mutual visits. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the partnership, a delegation from San Lorenzo in the parish of St. Josef in Singen was now visiting: Luzmila Cama, director of the daycare, Mario Rueda and Hector Cardenas, both parish councilors. The visitors reported on their work and the current status of the joint projects.
The municipality of St. Josef supports San Lorenzo, among other things, in the creation and improvement of the infrastructure of the rapidly growing municipality and in the operation and expansion of daycare centers. Above all, these should enable the youngest of the socially weak families to have a sheltered daily routine and be a place of integration for young families.
During their almost two-week stay, the Peruvians visited various social institutions together with their hosts - including the "Protective Workshop" St. Pirmin of Caritas, the St. Nikolaus Day Care Center, the newly renovated hospital chapel and "The Table". A highlight was the patronal feast of St. Josef, which was celebrated together with the well-traveled guests at a church service.
Around 140 partnerships with Peruvian parishes are cultivated in the Archdiocese of Freiburg. As part of the volunteer program, young adults are regularly sent to Peru for one year to work as volunteers in schools, charitable institutions and church congregations. In exchange, volunteers from Peru help in social institutions and communities in the archdiocese.
