Airbnb will settle a Quebec-class lawsuit over clear pricing

LPC Avocat Inc. Clients represented in 2017 filed a class action lawsuit against the company's practice of adding cashier fees, which the law firm says is illegal under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act.

The applicants argued that Airbnb added between 13% and 17% of the total price in the final stage of service charges, while Airbnb denied the allegations and argued that this was not a breach of law.

As part of the deal reached Sept. 23, all Quebec residents who booked on the Airbnb platform between August 22, 2014 and June 26, 2019, which had a higher checkout price than the first phase of browsing, could receive $ 45 in Airbnb credits.
